Where Did February Go?

Okay, wasn't it just New Year's Day? It seems as though I just looked at the calendar and noticed February is almost gone. It was a busy month around here and we were able to do a lot of fun and productive activities.

First, I want to let everyone know how proud I am of Mike and all his accomplishments lately. Earlier this month he spent a week in Austin getting his H2S Gas Instructors Certification. This allows him to teach safety courses on the proper handling, management and awareness of H2S gas in the gas/oil industry to field workers. As you can imagine this is a pretty intense course and passing it is an accomplishment in itself. Well my smart a**, oops I mean smarty-pants hubby scored a 102.8 out of a possible 104 points. Way to go!!

The weather here has been crazy. On a few of the nice days we were able to take Hannah to the park and let her slide and play at the playground. She is a bit of a dare devil and calls herself High-flying Hannah when she swings. Mike can handle swinging her really high, I on the other hand am a mother hen and prefer her closer to the ground. Needless to say she loves to swing with Daddy.

The weekend of Valentine's my parents came to visit us in the new house for the first time. We had a great visit and took mom and dad to see the Tobasco Factory. This is a great tour it only costs $1 for a car load, but you end up spending a small fortune in the country store!

While mom and dad where here, I pointed out a distinct landscape feature that I have only witnessed here in south Louisiana. I know my Granny Shelton would have appreciated this and probably would have figured out how to do it to her trees. Around here ferns are growing all over the branches, it is actually a little mystical looking in by opinion. Check it out.

Since we are settled in the house, I have began to focus on feeding Hannah's desire to learn. I have found inspiration from a few websites and we have discoved learning crafts. For Valentine's she made Valentine's for her cousins and other family members.

We are also doing crafts involving a letter of the day. Hannah can recognize all of the uppercase letters, now we are just making it fun.

The letter "H" for heart

I cut out an "H" from sticky back foam and placed it on a piece of construction paper.
Hannah decorated it with foam heart stickers.
Ta da! The letter H.

We have also discovered the sensory box concept. I filled a box with dried beans and gave her some old measuring cups and plastic spoons and let her play. She is so into this and it will occupy her while I cook lunch or dinner. She loves to scoop and sort and mostly make bean soup in the bowls.

Pure concentration..

Letter of the day "A" for alligator

I drew an A on a piece of construction paper and let her color it. I cut it out and Hannah glued it onto another sheet of construction paper. Then we glued on two googlie eyes. I cut triangles out of white sticky back foam and she placed the teeth in the alligator's mouth.

Oh and a side note potty training is about 80% done. If only I had a potty like Wal-Mart here at the house we would be 100%. She always goes when we are at Wal-Mart or any public place for that matter.
